Development Notes / Development Blog 16 - What's Next?
« on: November 12, 2018, 05:30:53 pm »

I'm going with a different blog style today.
Hello and welcome to Blog 16 - What's next?

We regret to inform you our kickstarter was unsuccessful, we tried our best and waited 2 years to give it a shot but it seems it wasn't meant to be. We will not be launching another one.

Thank you to everyone who backed us we managed to raise 3,200 which isn't terrible for a community our size. Though all of this will be returned as we didn't reach our goal.

Let's start the blog off with answering some questions

Will the game be cancelled? : No, kickstarter was there for us to make the game that extra bit special. You will feel the difference from our first release build compared to our final patch. The game we release will be a shadow of what we're capable of but without funding we just cant do it.

Can we still buy Alpha?
: Yes, Alpha is now back on sale. Price has been lowered from 75 > 50 - http://rsegames.com/index.php?topic=12.0#forum

What's next? : Well RSE isn't discouraged we're still working on the project but we'd like some time to ourselves. We're going to go quiet for a few months until we're ready to begin the 2nd phase of testing (Beta). This means Alpha testing will be limited to play sessions.

Development Notes / Development Blog 15 - Artillery & New Uniforms
« on: November 01, 2018, 05:58:21 pm »

Hello and welcome to blog 15!

We've been working hard since blog 14 and we are happy to introduce artillery into the Alpha build. Artillery in Whigs & Tories is a team effort, working alone is possible but slow. We feel the set up we have now will give purpose to Artillery crews on the battlefield, skill and team work will result in faster reloading times and more shots into the enemy position!

We've also added destructable enviroments!

New Uniforms.

Volt has made us some lovely uniforms. Right now we don't plan to add these until we're into the Beta stage of Whigs & Tories. Below the 71st Highlanders and 85e Are featured, enjoy!

Development Notes / Development Blog 13 - Thank you! & What's next?
« on: September 13, 2018, 09:24:27 pm »

Hello and Welcome to blog 13!

As the title says, we (RSE) feel the need to say THANK YOU to all our supporters. We're very pleased with the community's response to alpha going live earlier this month. Tester videos and screenshots, constructive comments and new faces joining the forums is only aiding our (r)evolution  ;D.

So what have we been doing?

Since the Alpha release we have patched the steam version 3 - 4 times. The patches included things such as improved shooting and melee, bug fixing and general stability improvements. Our next series of updates will now focus more on new gameplay features such as artillery and other classes. One of these features is one that we have been quiet about but we are excited to finally share it with you, camp life!

Camp life.

In the coming patches we will be setting the ground works for regimental camp life.
This will eventually include the following:

- Cooking (Deer, bears, & rabbits)
- Building your camp
- Drinking
- Sleeping
- Various cool things we wont spoil
- Smoking

Hunting.

We have been working on our animal AI system to be able to create a more challenging hunting mechanic. Players will have to sneak up on their prey to get close enough to shoot but be careful cause if you miss your shot the animal will run away.

Predators on the other hand may charge you and a single shot will not bring them down. Going alone against a bear will be suicide unless you're really handy with a bayonet.

Killing an animal will allow you to harvest meat which can be cooked back at the camp.

With this series of features we hope to immerse the player even more into the wild frontier that were the lands of the New World but also to provide players with fun experiences outside linebattling.

Other classes

Artillery will be joining the playable classes in WaT:AR soon enough. Sappers are being designed as well. Sappers won't just be tasked with supporting the line in sieges or linebattles but they will aslo be able to help construct tents and pits for cooking.

New Map. [High - 120 FPS]

Spoiler: show

Crowd Funding.

This is a route many indie developers follow but I think it's safe to say we've truely pushed the game to its limits with the funding we currently have (around 1.5k Euros). We need some extra help and we think now it is the time to get it.

Kickstarter. We will be starting our campaign once our presentation video is ready. We hope that you will support us and help us reach our modest goal. Like they say, every little helps.

If you've made it this far thank you, a longer blog than usual  ;)

« on: September 02, 2018, 07:12:18 pm »

Hello and welcome to blog 12 (Alpha Release)

Not much to say in this blog as we'll be leaving it up to our testers to tell you about the game themselves.

Please keep in mind this is an Alpha build of the game and not finished.

Speaking of testers here is TotalLegions video.

Community / Best Regimental Thread Competition [Idea]
« on: August 30, 2018, 09:56:36 pm »
Hello, we're thinking of hosting a competition for best thread design.

We feel regimental threads are more than just a post, many of you take a lot of time making your regimental threads as they serve as a mini social spot for your clan, a recruitment tool and keep you in the loop with the communities goings on.

For this we need 3 judges. I will be 1 and we will choose 1 from person from the NA community and 1 from the EU community. This will just be to pick the final 5 threads after that we will allow you to vote via a pole.

How will we judge a thread?

1. Lay out
- Thread must be visually pleasing, no empty spaces but no spam be wise with your code.

2. Header
- The first thing you see when you enter the thread, it must be impactful and set the stage for the rest of the thread.

3. Attention to detail.
- Regiment roster
- Ranks

none of the above are required to win go with any style you like, these are just "guidelines" sometimes less is more.

Prize? The thread will be given a special award and the owner a forum group. Ingame we plan to give regiments badges such as 1+ year service, we can give this award to the regiment group ingame too.

Note: This is just an idea, what do you think? What other things should the judges look for?

Regiments / Queens Rangers, 1st American Regiment of Canada. [EU]
« on: August 06, 2018, 10:52:05 am »

The Queen's York Rangers (1st American Regiment) RCAC trace their direct origins to Robert Rogers and his Rangers in 1756 during the French and Indian Wars. Disbanded after seven years of hard service, Rogers reformed the Rangers in 1775 and they soon were carried on the British Army list as the Queen's Rangers, First American Regiment. The Rangers were particularly distinguished under John Graves Simcoe in 1777 at the Battle of Brandywine and were shipped to New Brunswick at the end of the war in 1783. When Simcoe was appointed to be the first Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, he made a stop in New Brunswick and raised the Queen's Rangers again and brought them with him in 1793. The Rangers were stood down again in 1802 and became the York Militia. They became active again during the War of 1812 and again during the Upper Canada Rebellion in 1837-38.

Regiments / Regarding Regiment Claims. [Active 05/8/2018]
« on: August 05, 2018, 08:29:47 pm »
In the past we allowed first come first served, this system has flaws.

Keep in mind, Whigs & Tories has an ingame regiment system so use of the forums is very important if you wish to keep your claim.

Regimental claims will only be valid if you provide evidence of the regiments exsistence along with active use of the forums. If you aren't booking events, posting regimental images or generally communicating with the community your claim is void.

Also trolling and negative behaviour in events or around the community will get your regiment deleted from the game, if you're set out to ruin peoples fun we will not offer you a platform to do so. This however can be reversed with evidence of behaviour changes.

If a user is holding a name hasn't been online since the posts creation/offline for 1+ years that is also a notice of vacancy.

Regiments come and go but legacys do not. Just because you have an emotional attachment to a name but you can no longer run the regiment doesn't mean you are allowed to keep that name.

If you were the last legitimate name holder for example [41st] You as the leader have the right to give that name to however you feel is worthy, once it is given it is no longer yours. If you decide the name is free with a last post on your regimental thread then whoever picks it up first claims that name.

User2001 says: But I dont wan't to use the forums, I just want to play.

Then you cannot run a regiment. The forums allow you to talk to other regiments, follow news, book events and even improve recruiting.

Notes.

This does not affect alpha or beta testing.

Development Notes / Development Blog 11.5 - Multiplayer [Part 2]
« on: July 21, 2018, 03:05:31 am »

Part 2!

Hello and welcome to the second and final part of blog 11!
We 've been busy creating new maps, fixing bugs and implementing other useful gameplay features for our alpha testers. Polishing the game in general.

A Note on Alpha Release:
As you can see in the video below, there is a server up and running and the game can be distributed. We, as developers, do not feel that it is quite ready yet for alpha testing. We don't want to rush things, especially now that we are getting closer to our goals for Alpha and we certainly don't want our alpha testers to feel cheated. Fear not however, alpha time is nigh!

Our next blog (Blog 12) will be the Alpha release and it will be published once we have perfected melee (we know what's wrong, don't worry) and have fixed a couple of other things.

Below there is a multiplayer gameplay video with the game at its current state! (Feat. Neoptolemus)

It's been a while...

Hello and welcome to PART 1 of blog 11! This part of the blog will demonstrate what we have been working on this includes Melee, weapons, UI and animations. We've also changed alot under the hood, visually the game looks, feels and plays much smoother.

Here's a video. (nerves return)

I didn't really show off feinting too well in this video, next one I will be sure to cover it.

Other news.

Alpha - It's around the corner. As of today [30/06/18] we are able to join and play on our dedicated server, alpha testers will be allowed to join once we've ironed out some issues.

Playable units - We've created alot of uniforms which we wanted to be playable in Alpha but due to the fact we changed our skeleton, the rigging for these meshes isnt compatible. Our Modeler Makii left the team again, no reason given. His role was to update these meshes with correct rigging, until this is completed we can only offer what is shown in the video above in alpha.

Kickstarter
- Yes, we're interested in running a kickstarter. As mentioned above we are without an experienced character artist and without money to pay for one kickstarter is our only option.

Hello boys and girls, we hope you've got as much snow as we do! Welcome to Blog 10.5 hard to come up with a title for this one.

The team has been working overtime to bring blog 11 to reality but not everything is picture perfect or well video perfect in this case so while we wait here's a blog to add that one.

Many of the fuctions you will see here will add in the gameplay of Blog 11.

*Note everything in this blog is Work In Progress!

Lets begin.

Here's a Video (with my nervous voice over) here.

What else have we been up to?

Well Parrot has created a new skeleton for us from scratch, this means we must abandon everything we've done before not only with Animations but with how our character is designed, this is no small feet and theres no one better than Richard who as been filling this void piece by piece.

Here's our new skeleton
