Development Notes / Development Blog 10 - Brick by brick (Gameplay)

Hello boys and girls, we hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Welcome to Blog 10, Brick by Brick.

The team has been working really hard on the game and it feels like it is really coming along. At this point we are very excited to introduce a new addition to the RSE core, Neoptolemus, our new coder who has been making WaT:AR's gameplay more fluid.

Since Blog 9, not much has changed in terms of characters or art, our main focus has been on making all the required backend code work for our upcoming alpha version which is getting closer and closer. In said blog we also promised you some gameplay and here it is! Early days but we hope you can see how WaT is shaping up.

Here we have a preview of what the character feels like during gameplay. Notice that the time of the map is set to dawn.






Next up, we have a preview of WaT:AR's day / night circle. This video has been up on our donator board for a while now but we wanted it to be a part of a larger blog before making it public.






We've also been making some concepts as to how WaT will sound. Marks put together a rough outline in a video here. We want WaT to really bring out the gory side of war.


As shown in our first video, the player gets to kill a deer. Now this is a PvP game after all and we know you all expect some action between players but worry not because this is exactly what our next blog will include.

Alpha News
As mentioned before alpha is close. We, as a team, wanted a playable alpha within a year (2017-2018) which we feel is very possible. Stay tuned for more news on that.

Web News
Finally, we are currently in the process of redesigning our websites and making them more optimised as well. After all, they are the means which help us interact with the community and therefore we will work hard on them in the near future.

Hello boys and girls and welcome to our 9th development blog, Comparisons & Current status!

In this blog we will be talking about our progress with the game since the day we announced.

Starting off with visuals, we recently looked at our old blogs and thought that they were very outdated and no longer reflected what the project is. Therefore we are providing you with screenshots of both the old and the latest stuff to "reset" the overall image of Whigs & Tories.

Moving on, let's compare Blog 1 to Blog 9.

Those with a keen eye saw that we have a Stag in the scene. We're currently in the process of adding animals in the game implementing AI logic. We feel it would give a feeling of the frontier and make the game feel more alive in general. These animals will be killable but beware, some of them might fight back!

Hello boys and girls welcome to our 8th Development blog, playtesting & visuals.

"What the heck have you been up to RSE?" I hear you ask, well dear viewer as the title says we've been doing playtesting (more from balgy on that later in the blog) but lets cover the 2nd half the visuals.

So, we've added new lighting affects that soften everything and make our normals pop a bit better. A lot of the uniforms have been editted to match the new lighting but you've seen the 23rd a million times lets have something new! Here's what I've been making since the last blog, enjoy!

Gameplay Updates

Hello everyone, Balgy here, I know that we have been very quiet about progress on the mechanics and general gameplay so far, but today we are going to defy the laws of tradition and actually inform you on the matter.
The past couple of weeks we 've been doing a lot on networking, designing menus and implementing internet play. We playtested WaT online and it was a success. Moreover, we are happy to announce that we 've successfully added steam functionallity in our game. Finally, hosting a game of WaT without a dedicated server is now possible. We will be providing more gameplay news as alpha gets closer.

Development Notes / Development Blog 7 - Cannon & Alpha News.

Hello boys and girls welcome to our 7th Development blog, lets get into it.

In today's blog we will be talking about our progress. Since the last blog we've had a couple new people join the project (Dottorgrasso, Parrot) so expect great things from them in the coming weeks.

So what have we been doing? Currently Balgy is making everything ready for multiplayer (Network friendly) Alex has been making a very detailed cannon (below) I (Marks) have yet again been doing more edits to the uniforms and finally Baillie has finished our main theme song enjoy.

With the multiplayer hopefully our idea for the alpha isnt too far out of reach (If all goes to plan) We dont want to promise anything but we are all hard at working and we want to get the alpha ready more than you do.

Development Notes / Development Blog 6 - 1 Year old!

Hello guys, today is our birthday! We're celebrating our 1st year as a development team. I (Marks) came up with plan of RSE/WaT back last year in July and set off to make a team and build my idea, one year in I feel im accomplished that now we just need to finish the game! With that, progess has been a bit messy due to exams, holidays and myself being away mentioned in the last blog, but enough of excuses we do have some things to show.

We'd like to introduce two new team members looking for experience Jordan and Ziv! Hopefully you'll be seeing their contributions in the next blog! With that said what should you expect in the next one? Hopefully a video or two no promises but we'd like to show off the game not just screenshots but I feel like they're pretty boring. Our next blog may be delayed to make it that little bit more juicy and I personally (Marks) feel like these last two have been lacking any real importance other than to keep you guys informed. Anyone who is very keen to know whats going on the donation board is posted on very frequently.

Development Notes / Development Blog 5 - Updates.

Hello and welcome to our 5th Development blog, not the most exciting but hey it's better than nothing. In today's blog we will be showing you our progress, I (Marks) have been improving the quality of our character textures and I think I'm finally done with a lot of the British so you'll maybe start seeing Continentals soon.


Here's what I've done.

Finally, a few words from the programming department.
"You may wonder why have we been so quiet about the gameplay itself. Well, there is a complete overhaul going on at the moment with which we are making sure that we are recreating our existing mechanics with optimization as a top priority. Moreover, while optimizing our code we get a chance to review it and perhaps re-design parts of it to give a better feeling to the game. As soon as this overhaul is complete, you will start hearing a lot more from our end on the actual gameplay of WaT." - Balgy

Development Notes / Development Blog 4 - Scenes

Hello community and welcome to our 4th Development Blog, this blog will be about what the team has been doing as well as some nice screenshots of in-game work. In truth, we haven't been able to work much on the project due to the Easter break; we hope you enjoyed yours as much as we did ours!

We recently had two new members join our efforts. The first member is our new American friend Myzmotic who will be working alongside Balgy with general coding, he will be a great asset in the long run so we are happy to have him on board. Olin, an aspiring music composer, has been given the task of giving our gamemodes some life. We now feel we have an extremely solid team in all areas of development.

Now, without further ado, the content.


We recently hit a goal in funding to allow us to purchase some new environment assets.


Here we see the 10th Regiment of Foot upon the field with Colours and Officers.









Here's the view from our 3rd Person camera (What you'll be seeing).






Here's is one of our low land scenes (Scottish of sorts) nothing here is pre rendered or false, this is ingame.

Keep in mind everything you're seeing is pre Alpha but we think we're onto something good we hope you like our style! In order to progress further and deliver the best experience possible we cannot do it without your support in terms of getting the word out and funding. We do plan on going to kickstarter but not yet.
We would like to thank everyone who has donated thusfar but we're mostly relying upon our own incomes which, as I mentioned earlier, really slows development.

Development Notes / Development Blog 3 - Q&A / Soldier.

Hello and welcome to our 3rd development blog! Not the most exciting blog in terms of content but here's the Q&A we promised.


Starting us off with the questions Grizzly/memeGoblin/Chris asks.

(1) - How many units do you think will we have on the battlefield at once?
(2) - And what variety (regarding different regiments/how many regiments) do you expect for us to see in-game?.

A1-  We wish to have a large number of players in each player session, this is a very important aspect of the game and be sure we are not taking it lightly.  However it's way too early to give solid numbers, but once we have one we will let you know. (We are aiming for 200+ and we will try to make it so.) Appart from the players, you can also excpect wildlife and AIs as well.
A2 -There will be a selection of units playable from the period. We've planned to have more than 10 Line infantry regiments per side, this does not include militia, Loyalists, Rangers or Misc, expect alot. In regards to variety at release expect Arty, Line, Lights, Militia & Rifles. W&T aims to be a Linebattle game focused mainly on the line infantry.

(1) - What units will we be expecting to see? Answered
(2) -Will there be an alpha + Beta?
(3) - Will you be able to sort the text on here out as I can barely see it?

(1) - Will there be admin tools and will there be a moderator type in the game as well?


[A1]- We plan to make it very easy for Event hosts/Admins to organise & control players within (and out) of their servers. We dont want to give too much away but yes, expect a clean, easy to use admin panel.




Painmace, askes.

(1 - Will the unit/regiment selection be similar to NW?
(2) - Will there be "special" features? Example bleeding or "reviving".



[A1] - NW isn't connected to Whigs and Tories : American Revolution so no.
[A2] - No & No




Lecourbe, askes.

(1)What about miss fire? Will you add it? Because, as you probably know, it was frequent with a musket.


[A1] - We will not.



Lastly Owfier, askes.

(1) - Say there will be muskets which I assume will be in the game and you get in a melee fight will there be any kind of blocking? and if will it be close to the blocking from M&B?


[A1] - We will be building a "simple" melee system just to find our basic playercount see how demanding everything is, once we have a steady idea we can build from it, we're like a 4 way melee system but it wont be like NWs / M&Bs as we feel thats just copying.
